Court asks minister to clarify use of algorithm in rejection of visa application

The District Court of The Hague (sitting in Groningen) wants the Minister of Foreign Affairs to investigate how the Information Assisted Decision Making (IOB) algorithm works and was used in the decision to reject a visa application. In an interlocutory ruling, the court finds that the algorithm was used, but that this is not evident from the reasons for the decision.

United Nations launches initiatives for AI governance

The United Nations has launched two initiatives to strengthen international cooperation on artificial intelligence: the Scientific Panel on AI and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance. The consultation platform is to promote global agreements on responsible AI use. The Scientific Panel will provide independent analysis to better inform policy, with annual reports starting in 2026. According to UN Secretary-General Guterres, the common interest of humanity is central.
